KEITH Q. KISSINGER, 79, died Sunday, June 21, 2009 at his home. He was born on October 25, 1929 in Columbia City, a son of William L. and Delphia E. Mosher Kissinger. A lifelong resident of Columbia City, he attended the West Ward School and graduated from the Columbia City High School in 1948.

After completing his schooling, he was employed at the Garden Gift Shop until being inducted into the U. S. Army in January 1951 and served during the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany for seventeen months and was honorably discharged in January 1957.

Following his discharge from military duty, he was first employed at the Columbia Woolen Mill, later the Blue Bell and he retired as a maintenance employee for the City of Columbia City. A certified baseball and basketball official, he umpired baseball games for the Columbia City summer baseball league for twenty-five years and officiated many basketball games in the area. Mr. Kissinger was a loyal fan of the Columbia City High School athletic teams, the Chicago White Sox and Notre Dame Fighting Irish football.

He was a member of the Columbia City United Methodist Church and the Pierceton American Legion Post # 258.

He is survived by nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by a brother, Russell V. Kissinger, a sister, Beatrice Yant; two half sisters, Blanche Bolles, Ethel Meade and a half brother, David Ramsey.

The funeral service will be held at 3:30 pm Wednesday, June 24, 2009 with the Rev. Paul Arnold, pastor of the Columbia City United Methodist Church, officiating. The burial will be in the South Park Annex Cemetery with the Whitley County Korean War Veterans Honor Guard presenting the military honors. The visitation will be from 1 to 3:30 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Columbia City United Methodist Church.

Notes from July 30, 2007: Retired. Went to the Army, umpired Little League and Babe Ruth baseball and basketball for over 25 years. Worked for City of Columbia City.
