Doris E. Moog, 93, of Columbia City, passed away at 4:10 p.m. Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at The Waters, Columbia City, where she had been a resident since March of 2021.

Born on October 26, 1929, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Loma (Hazen) Barnes. Growing up in Columbia City, she graduated from Columbia City High School in 1947.

On June 28, 1947, she married William W. Moog, beginning a 63-year journey together, raising six children. The couple have always made their home in Columbia City. William died on January 18, 2011.

A full-time homemaker raising the kids, she also belonged to the Grace Lutheran Church, where she was a member of Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Churches of America and the Deborah Group.

She enjoyed watching baseball, either her sons playing Little League or her favorite professional team – The Cubs. She liked to read, especially books about the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln.

Surviving are her children, Mary (Anthony) Pawlowski of Coldwater MI, Janet Shidler of Belleview, MI, Andrea Barker of North Webster, Judy (Richard) Horn of Peoria, AZ, and Craig Moog of Columbia City; a daughter-in-law, Rhonda Moog; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Additionally, she was preceded in death by a son, Ross Moog, sons-in-law Phillip Shidler and Thomas Barker, and a brother, Richard Barnes.

The funeral service is at 11 a.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial is beside her husband at the Nolt Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials in Doris’s honor are to the Special Olympics.
