Billy E. Malone, 89, of Venice, Fla., formerly of Columbia City, went into the arms of Jesus Jan. 17, 2017.

Billy proudly served his country as a U.S. Merchant Marine. He retired from Magnavox, Fort Wayne, in 1989.

Billy was a kind and gentle man who enjoyed birds, animals and wildlife, flower gardening, history, researching the history of the Magnavox Company, gifting books, bread making, and volunteering at Fort Wayne Children's Zoo. He was a master basket maker, a dedicated blood donor and an avid and formidable table tennis player.

Billy loved his years spent living with his grandparents, Carl and Ella Kauffman on their farm in Laud, and he graduated from Columbia City High School in 1944.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Ruth Malone; daughter, Bonnie (Tom) Woolums, of Venice, Fla.; sons, Brian (Kathy) Malone and Barry Malone, both of Fort Wayne; step-children, Paul Green III, of New Hampshire, Sherry (John) Burnside, of Fort Wayne, Anita (Doug) Driscoll, of Columbia City, Lori (Don Mackey) Ehler, of Culver; 16 grandchildren; and 26 great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, Eugene Malone and Isabel Barnes Mann; infant daughter, Penny; and step-children, Gregory Green and Beth A. Rawles.

Gathering will be from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25 at Farley Funeral Home, Venice Chapel, Venice, Fla., with the funeral service following at 1 p.m. Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. at Sarasota National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tidewell Hospice on Rand in Sarasota, Fla.
