Ezma Louise Gaff, 97, of rural Larwill [Indiana], died peacefully at 12:22 a.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at her home.

Born on July 24, 1925, in Noble County, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Okla (Hire) Hively. Moving to Whitley County at an early age, she graduated from Columbia City High School.

On April 9, 1944, she married Tony L. Gaff. They made their home on a farm in Jefferson Twp. Tony died on November 26, 2010.

In addition to being a full-time homemaker, she assisted on the farm and raised six children.

An accomplished seamstress, she made clothing for her family and later in life turned to making dolls and quilts. Throughout her life, she enjoyed growing flowers and accompanying her husband vacation trips to the western states, and fishing excursions. Having a servant’s heart, she enjoyed being with people and assisting them however possible. She was a member of First Church of God, Columbia City.

Surviving are her children, Ronald (Jenny) Gaff of Larwill and Jeanette (Joe) Jordan of Columbia City; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Additionally, she was preceded in death by daughters, Toni Norden, Rosalind Klingaman, and Linda Gaff; a son, Stanley Gaff; and brothers, Dale Hively and Joe Hively.

The funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday, February 4, at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial is beside her husband at the Merriam Christian Chapel Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
