Walter Burdette Crampton, Jr., age 84, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 22, 2010 at his residence. Born August 24, 1925 in Eaton, Delaware County, IN he was the son of Walter B. and Vera B. (Andrews) Crampton.

Since the age of 11, he has spent his life in the Tri-Lakes, Columbia City, area. He graduated from Columbia City High School, attended Wabash College for 2 years and Purdue University for 2 years. He served in the United Stares Army, National Guard for 32 years. On October 26, 1944, he married Dorothy M. Crampton in Covington, KY. He retired in 1991 as an electronic technician at the former Magnavox Company, Fort Wayne. He was a member of the Tri-Lakes Baptist Church and former member of the Columbia City Rotary Club.

Survivors include his 5 children, Ken (Dorie) Crampton of Columbia City; Treasa Crampton of Columbia City; Noreen (Glen) Kemery of Playa Del Rey, CA; Dennis (Fran) Crampton of San Diego, CA; Dr. Michael (Nancy) Crampton of Columbia City; 2 sisters, Lucinda (Bruce) Rex and Barbara Miller both of Columbia City; 2 brothers, Lloyd (Judy) Crampton of Grand Marie, MI; John Crampton of Columbia City; 14 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy M. Crampton and brothers, Keith and Richard Crampton.

Visitation is Wednesday, August 25, 2010 from 4-7 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral service will immediately follow visitation at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Graveside service is Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. at South Park Original Cemetery, Columbia City. Memorials may be given in Mr. Crampton's memory to Rotary Boy's State. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
