George P. Hawley, 77, of St. Albans died March 12, 2002, at Personal Care Home Inc., St. Albans, after a long illness.

He was retired from Union Carbide as a project chemical engineer, with several patents, after 38 years of service.

He was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, St. Albans, as a charter member and an elder of Lakeview United Methodist Church, St. Albans.

He was a graduate of Purdue University with a B. S. in chemical engineering, he was a Distinguished Student in 1948, a member of Omega Chi Epsilon, honorary fraternity.

Mr. Hawley was a United States Army veteran of World War II, a member of American Legion Post 73, St. Albans, West Virginia Sons of the American Revolution, Nature Conservancy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Karl O. and Marion Pattison Hawley; brother, John Edwin Hawley; and sister, Jean Hawley Sealo.

He is survived by his wife, Sara "Sally" J. Hunter Hawley of St. Albans; daughters and sons-in-law, Anne Hawley and Mark H. Morris of Barboursville, Susan Hawley and Thomas Conley of Virginia Beach, Va.; son, Karl O. Hawley of St. Albans; brothers, William R. Hawley of Crawfordsville, Ind., K. Richard Hawley of Mount Vernon, Ind..; and granddaughter, Marion J. Morris of Pittsburgh.

Service will be 2 p.m. Friday, March 15, at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans, with the Rev. Loretta Isaiah, the Rev. Max Perrow and the Rev. John Goodman officiating.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston, with military graveside rites conducted by American Legion Posts 73 and 6418 of St. Albans.
