William D. Corbin, 91, of Columbia City, died at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, November 2, 2008 at The Oaks Living Center where he had been a resident since August.

He was born April 4, 1917 in Thorncreek Township, Whitley County a son of John Renneker and Effie Mae (Leaman) Corbin. As a young boy, his family moved to Columbia Township. He graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1936.

In 1941 he was united in marriage to Elnore Perry. They made their home in Columbia City. Mrs. Corbin died November 3, 1942.

In 1942 he was united in marriage to Elzora Allen. They made their home just west of Collins until 1950 when they moved to a farm just southeast of Columbia City. Mrs. Corbin died July 6, 1962.

A farmer, he was an engineer for Pennsylvania Railroad from 1942 until his retirement in 1984. He also owned and operated Corbin Well Drilling from 1954 until 1985 when he sold the business to his son, Steve, and continued assisting with the operations.

On June 3, 1994 he was united in marriage to Betty (Miller) Schrader. Mrs. Corbin died December 8, 2005.

A member of Eagles #1906 and Indiana Well Drillers Association Local No. 2, his church affiliation was with Oak Grove Church of God.

Surviving relatives include seven children, Judith (Tom) Smith of Columbia City, Larry (Susan) Corbin of Avilla, Cindy (Jerry) Auer of Larwill, Susan (Russell) Swing of Fallbrook, California, Steven (Sue) Corbin of Columbia City, Janet Corbin of Pretty Lake and Joan Sadilek of Fort Wayne; 20 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two step children, Judy (Fred) Geyer and Rex Schrader, both of Columbia City; nine step grandchildren; and 25 step great grandchildren.

In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jesse Corbin; and three sisters, Alice Baker, Helen Sievers and Phyllis Montz.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with Rev. Carroll McNutt officiating. The burial will be in Blue River Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to Anthony Wayne Area Council Boy Scouts of America or Bear Lake Church of God Camp.
