Esther May Vider, 90

Esther May Vider (nee Bump), 90, died June 10, 2005, at Victory Memorial Hospital in Waukegan, Ill.

Born June 29, 1914, in Whitley County, she was a daughter of Wilson Eldon Bump and Nellie Cora Grace. She attended Whitley County schools and was a 1933 graduate of Columbia City High School. In 1934, she graduated from the Betty Jean School of Beauty Culture in Fort Wayne.

On June 6, 1936, she married John H. Miller in a double ceremony at the First Baptist Church in Columbia City. They moved to Lake County, Ill., where she was a homemaker.

Following Mr. Miller's death, she worked as a comptometer operator for Johns-Manville Products Corporation, where she met her second husband, Anthony A. Vider. After 20 years at Johns Manville, she retired in 1974 to care for her grandchildren.

A member of First Baptist Church, the Waukegan Women's Club, Little Fort Family Campers, AARP and two square dance clubs, the Buoys-Belles and Swingin' Swedes. She volunteered at the Waukegan Public Library, Victory Memorial Hospital and the Kankakee Association for the Retarded.

Surviving relatives include her daughters, Carolyn Ruth Miller of Kankakee, Ill., and Shirley (Phil) Lenz of Gurnee, Ill.; two grandsons; a sister-in-law, Annabel (Clyde) Phemister of Columbia City; many nieces and nephews and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, a sister, Ruth Pauline Bump; and a brother-in-law, James K. Miller Sr.

The funeral service was June 15, 2005, at Marsh Funeral Home in Waukegan. Interment was along side her first husband, sister and brother-in-law at North Shore Garden of Memories, North Chicago, Ill.
