October 2006 she was living at Miller's Merry Manor in Columbia City. Received a pink carnation flower from the CCHS ALUMNI ASSOCIATION on "ALUMNI DAY" & a picture was taken. She passed away in May 2008.

Hazel Mae Workman, age 93, of Columbia City, IN passed away at 12:25 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at Miller's Merry Manor, Inc., Columbia City. Born on December 2, 1914 in Whitley County, IN, she was the daughter of Russell and Ruth (Kreider) Amber. A Whitley County native, she graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1932.

On March 8, 1935 she was united in marriage to John C. Workman in Goshen, IN. Several years after their marriage, she and her husband moved to Detroit, MI for a brief time. In 1946, they moved to a farm in Washington Township, Whitley County and remained there until a few years ago when Hazel became a resident at Miller's Merry Manor.

A devoted housewife and mother, she was employed by Blue Bell Factory in the 1930's and she was the township clerk for Washington Township from 1958 to 1966. She was a member of Washington Center United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her 3 children, J. Lynn Workman and Kay (Sylvester) Hinen both of Columbia City and Connie (Steve) Horning of Rome, WI; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, John C. Workman, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Amber, and sisters, Mamie Barnhart, Isabelle Sharett and Jeanne Gage.

Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral service is 1 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2008 at the funeral home with Pastor Phil Blake officiating. Burial will follow at South Whitley Cemetery, South Whitley, IN.

Memorials may be given in Mrs. Workman's memory to Washington United Methodist Church or Parkview Whitley Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. To send condolences or sign the guest register, please visit www.demoneygrimes.com
