MARY K. GROVES, 93, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2006 in Ormond Beach, Florida.

She was born on July 6, 1913 in Columbia Township, Whitley County, a daughter of Harry E. and Nellie E. (Garrison) Roberts. Her family moved to Columbia City when she was sixteen and after graduating from Columbia City High School she was employed at the Blue Bell Company.

On June 1, 1935, she was united in marriage to Ralph D. Groves and they made their home in Columbia City until 1940 when they moved to Fort Wayne. In 1953, she started her employment at the old Methodist Hospital as a nurses aid and then the Parkview Hospital, later was employed in a physician's office in Hew Haven for several years.

Following their retirement, the Groves resided at Lake Gage in the summer months and Florida in the winter. In 1991, they moved to Columbia City and since the death of her husband, on March 1, 1996, she has made her home in Florida

Her church affiliation was with the Columbia City United Methodist Church.

The surviving relatives include two sons, David Robert (Andrea) Groves, Minneapolis, Dennis Ralph Groves, Daytona Beach, Florida; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Ruth (Adrian) Beers, Columbia City and Peg Miller of Kokomo. She was preceded in death by a son, Douglas, a daughter Rebecca; four brothers, Nathan, Walter, George and Gene; three sisters, Eloise Kyler, Marie Benton and Lavon Przebendowski.

The funeral service will be 11 am Friday at the Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with Pastor Mark Need of the Columbia City United Methodist Church, officiating. The burial will be in the South Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
