In addition to his business, Tim reached out to his community in several other ways. Since September of 2011, he served on the board of directors for Passages Inc., an organization that is devoted to helping people with intellectual disabilities or other challenges to thrive in the world around them. Tim was a member of Del Fuego LLC in Columbia City since March of 2011. With the purchase of the old Masonic Lodge in Columbia City, he worked to make The Van Buren Building the cornerstone of downtown revitalization. After three years of intensive renovations and diligence, Tim felt accomplished in this mission. An enormous success, this project had the second highest renovation value spent in downtown Columbia City, second only to the county owned Government Center. Additionally, he was the sole owner of CMH Arrowhead LLC since May 2008, vice president of a local beauty salon and spa called Snippers, Inc. since June 2007, an associate with Paul Davis Restoration & Remodeling of NEIN since February of 2002, and the recording secretary of Local 232.

As an adult Tim continued to have an interest in sports. He was the assistant coach for girls track and both girls and boys cross-country at Columbia City High School from May of 2009 through October of 2012. Tim remained active by training for triathlons and playing basketball with St. Matthew's church league, loved playing in the snow and going snowmobiling, and was a huge fan of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fun-loving, relaxed, and driven are just a few of the words that describe Timothy Hearld. He had a great sense of humor and loved making others laugh - even dressing up like a lady on one occasion. Tim rose to any challenge he took on and was passionate about helping others. Deeply devoted to his family, he viewed his roles as a husband and father to be his greatest gift. He will be dearly missed and never forgotten.

"Tim enjoyed spending time with his friends and going on motorcycle rides. Whether it was for a few hours or a few days he made it an adventure every time. Never normal, always special. "

Timothy D. Hearld died on Wednesday, February 19, 2014. Tim's family includes his wife, Denise L. Hearld, Larwill; 3 children, Carlee, Timothy R. and Allie Hearld all of Larwill; parents, Dennis M. and Beverly S. Hearld, Columbia City; brother, Douglas M. (Jeanette) Hearld, Columbia City; sister, Angie (Todd) Heath, Larwill; in-laws, Vicki and Dane Hosler, Columbia City; father-in-law, Dennis Grable; grandmother-in-law, Eleanor Grable, Columbia City; beloved yellow lab, LS; and his many chickens. Tim was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Mary Hearld and Ronald and Treva Mossburg, Jerome Smoothington, III his special cat.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 24, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Johnny McCallister of First Church of God and Pastor Dennis Beckner of the Columbia City Church of the Brethren, officiating. The family has suggested optional casual attire for attendees at the service. Burial will follow at Greenhill Cemetery, Columbia City.
