Born in Seattle, Washington, Bob lived in Richmond Beach and Seward Park. In his teenage years, his family moved to Milwaukie, Wisconsin. He graduated from White Fish Bay High School and then earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Bob was an ardent Wisconsin Badger fan and Green Bay Packer Backer.

Two weeks after he turned 18, Bob enlisted in the US Navy and served in the Pacific on board the USS Antietam CV36, as a radio-gunner man. He received the Victory Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal. He was proud to have served his country.

In his career, Bob was first and foremost a newspaperman, working for the Minneapolis Star Tribune, The San Francisco Progress, and the Independent Journal of San Rafael, California. He finished his newspaper career as a national advertising director, followed by establishing his own advertising consulting business for many years.

In 1976, Bob met his future wife, Brenda, at Kaanapali Beach on Maui, Hawaii after she accidentally crashed into him in the surf! Twenty minutes later, he asked her for a dinner date, and on June 28, 1979, they were married on Camano Island and have resided there since. They attended Camano Chapel for over 30 years and they love their church family.

Together, Bob and Brenda traveled extensively throughout Canada and the United States. They loved to fish, camp, hike, and spend time with family, friends, and their dogs MacDuff and Teal.

Bob was an avid hunter of pheasants and ducks, and he was a lifetime member of Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed skiing, horseback riding, painting, collecting art and antiques, gardening, and landscaping their home. Bob was a great storyteller, and loved to engage anyone in conversation. He enjoyed life to the fullest, always smiling and laughing. Bob believed strongly in his grandmother's view of life: "I am prepared to meet my Maker, but I'm not going to take one step in that direction until it is absolutely necessary."

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Claire Taylor; sister, June Fauntleroy; and brother, Bud Taylor. Bob is survived by his wife, Brenda (Culbertson), daughters Linda Hammond (Dave), Mary Lee Taylor, and grand daughters Kelly and Grace Hammond. He also leaves a special brother-in-law, Phil Fauntleroy, nephews Tom and Bill Fauntleroy, nieces Claire MacDuffee, Suzie Harter (Les), Annie Barr (Pat), and many grand nephews and nieces.

Bob's family would like to give a special thank you to the loving staff at the Homeplace for their tender, compassionate care given to Bob. They helped make Bob's final three and a half years of life filled with fun, dignity, and joy.

A memorial service was held at Camano Chapel on Camano Island, Washington, November 23, 2013. Another memorial will be held in Columbia City, Indiana following internment at the Eel River Cemetery in Allen County, Indiana. Memorials may be made to Camano Chapel Saratoga Hall Building Fund or the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
