After High School, he attended DePauw University. A member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, he would often lovingly joke that their colors where "baby blue & pink". He then went on to the University of Michigan, where he earned his law degree.

Jim hung out his shingle in Indianapolis and was a founding partner of the predecessor to the office of Taft, Settinius, and Hollister, LLP. He remained in practice for 35 years.

Upon retiring, he spent his days caring for and unconditionally loving the animals at the Wilson Family Farm in Carmel.

Jim had a mind like a steel trap and could remember every name, face and conversation he ever had. To say he enjoyed conversing, would be an understatement. His knack for building relationships was uncanny. No matter what the occasion, he would strike up a witty repartee with strangers and leave having made new friends. His dry, intelligent humor was abundant and those who were fortunate enough to be in his presence, relished it.

He leaves behind the Fitzgerald, Wilson and Brickley families, along with many treasured friends, who were family to him. When Jim was head over heels about something or someone, he would say "There are not enough adjectives to describe how I feel." For all of us who knew him, there are not enough adjectives to describe how we feel upon his passing, how wonderful he was and how much he will be missed.

A limited celebration of his life took place at the Wilson property on November eight.
